Falling Leaves Hide the Path

When leaves fall and become wet, they can make the road slippery and dangerous.  If temps drop and the leaves become frozen, it can become even worse.  If leaves pile up on the roadway, it can obstruct your view of traffic lines or markings, potholes, speed bumps or other hazards.  If you live in an area where there is beautiful fall foliage, be aware of people admiring the view.  They may make unpredictable stops for photos.  Here are a few tips to keep you safe:

  • Reduce your speed when you see a lot of leaves or piles of leaves on the road
  • Give yourself distance behind other vehicles as leaves can cause traction issues
  • Make sure your windshield wipers are free from leaves and you have full visibility
